Case Study - Pete Benner & Indiana Pole Barns

Here's the story on how we were able to generate leads for Pete Benner. Pete sells pole barns in the central Indiana region. After talking with Pete, we decided that his customers would most likely type in the search terms Indiana Pole Barns. We then did a little research to find out how many people search Google for "Indiana Pole Barns" each month. The number turned out to be about 800. That's not a huge number, but it's nothing to sneeze your nose at either. We then developed the site indiana-pole-barns.com. This was done with Pete's assistance. He provided the photos and the technical information. The initial site was very simple, with only 6 pages. Each page has Pete's contact information. The main page has photos showing the many types of pole barns that can be constructed for different purposes. For us, the challenging & most important part of our job is to get good search engine rankings. Without good rankings, we won't be able to generate leads. Without leads, we don't get paid, so you can count on us to work very hard to get good rankings. Fortunately on this project we were able to hit the #1 spot on Google (After the paid ads). As of 5/4/14, this site still ranked first on Google. You can check to see where it ranks today by going to Google and searching on "Indiana Pole Barns".

Pete estimates that he gets about 10 leads per month from the web site. He generally gets a sale from about 1 out of 10 leads. He pays $20 per lead, so his cost is $200 per sale, which represents good value for him. Pete lives in the Indianapolis area, and occassionally he gets leads in the distant corners of the state. He turns these over to other salesmen, which is a good way to make friends.

After the website was in place for a while, we reviewed the searches and hits for the Indiana Pole Barns site. While we were number one in Google for searches such as "Indiana Pole Barns", there were terms where their was room for improvement. These included:

After this analysis, changes were made to the website and additional pages were added to target the search terms for which the website did not rank number one. Pete also continues to use traditional methods to generate leads, as seen in the photo to the left. He regularly sets up a booth at the Indianapolis Horse Show, Indiana State Fair, and several county fairs in central Indiana. These events require him to pay fees to the event organizers, and require him and / or his associates to man the booth during event hours.
